Let's see. What's new? Seems like that past couple of days have been filled with lots of positive stuff. Which for anyone who knows me, is kind of amazing as I tend to only journal when I'm super moody or pissed.
This will be random and probably out of order, but eh...that's how I am too. Ha!
Yesterday I got my first letter back from Sarah in Texas. It was short and sweet, but she wrote that she's doing well and has taken on leadership rolls at training. I had no doubt she would by the way. She also wrote that lots of the girls cry. A lot. But she doesn't. Sarah's not a cryer, she's a 'I can be strong, I will be strong, I am strong....I can hold this ALL in' type of girl. Then she explodes. So, my guess is once she sees us at graduation, she may very well become a blubbering mess. LOL! Its all good though. I know she's very sentimental deep inside, but is a lot like me in making sure her surface portrays a different person. We all have feelings and its ok to be a big baby once in awhile.
I haven't made our reservations yet for Texas, but I'm guessing that's something we'll polish up in the next week or so. We were going to drive, but its a 20 hour drive and Sam can't exactly take a full week off work knowing we'll be off a week in May as well for Florida. I mean 20 hours? That would take a day and a half to travel to and from Texas. Cheaper, yes. But time used logical? Not so much. So......now we will be flying.
Ok, now back to the diet news. Last week I met with my doctor about renewing my blood pressure medication. Or at least I thought that's what I would be there to discuss. Long story short, we end up increasing my medication and putting me on thyroid medication as well. After a brief conversation how frustrated I was of dieting and working out for 2 months (a month before the challenge started), I finally JUST got my bp down and only manage to lose a few pounds.
She talked to me again about the blood tests I had back in June showing I had hypothyroidism, but only in a mild form. As long as the symptoms didn't seem to be really noticeable, I made the decision back then to not medicate. She pointed out that THIS could be the reason I'm not seeing any changes on the scales. Hmph. I never thought of that. Soooooo......now I'm on thyroid medication. Why not. I mean I already have a whole slew of supplements and my bp medication that I'm already taking. I've started using one of those plastic pill organizers from the Dollar Store to make it easier. Which, believe me, makes me feel even older every time I see it. But I just can't remember which ones I've taken if I don't do it this way. Anyho.....the pills. I think they are already working. I got on the scale yesterday and was down to 176! What What!?!?! Yup! That happened. So that's all the motivation I needed to get me hyped up and back on track for sticking to my diet.
I was starting to fall off too last week before that doctor's visit. Giving in to Oreos and Rice Krispy treats, eating chips...just not even bothering to record food, etc. etc. So now I'm TOTALLY excited about the next weigh-in!
I've finished all my personal training sessions with my trainer. Yesterday was a group work-out session doing circuits. It was hard, but fun. And I always feel good when we do something new. Working out muscles I tend to ignore otherwise. One of yesterday's circuits were using the Battle Ropes. I fucking LOVE those things! I have 3-4 exercises I do using them already, but now, after yesterday's work-out, I have 2 more!
Speaking of work-outs, I did something last week, I've never done before. LOL - don't get excited, its more work-out stuff. While I was waiting for the doctor to come in, I manage to get in a full work-out in her exam room. It was fucking freezing in there. The nurse said they had the A/C on the day before, but the weather dropped to 50 degrees the next day and well, I guess they didn't bother putting the heat on. Anyway, my appointment was early, but it was also cutting into my usual gym time. So I went to the appointment dressed in my gym clothes. I had already been waiting in the waiting room a half hour. So as soon as the nurse left I started doing jumping jacks to warm up. Then I dropped and did planks. Then I started doing tricep chair lifts, then push-ups, then chair split lunges, then leg-ups...and well....you get the picture. I manage to do 4 full sets of 20 reps for 6 exercises before the doctor even came in! And the good news was, I didn't have to do any of that by the time I got to the gym! All I had to get in was my running. In and out. Woooohooooo. I love making the most of my time!
Ok, that's about it for now. Hopefully I'll get a chance to write more about progress soon. Little things to keep me going!
