Not that my life is a constant of normality, but I've been having a really 'off' month. Just random weirdness.
School started this past Monday, August 15th. Sam is out of town this whole week in St. Louis, MO. Our 10th wedding anniversary was July 28th. And Sam's 39th birthday was Tuesday, August 16th.
Backing up here. We went on a mini-vacation July 26-30. Friends of ours, Mike and Angelica, invited us to stay with them in Edisto Island at their beach rental. It was them with their 3 young teens and Sam, Sammy and me. The house was adorable, sitting right on the beach. Except it had a lawn where we could play frisbee and countless rounds of bocce ball. Right past the lawn was a gazebo sitting on the sand. That was extra nice because 1) It had an incredible hammock and 2) We didn't have to carry all of our beach chairs and things every day. We could just leave them there all week. Very nice. Sam manage to even go on a fishing trip with their family. I stayed behind since I was pretty sure Sammy wouldn't want to be on a boat for 4+ hours.
The actual night of our anniversary, we had an adult's night out. We had planned on going for drinks and dinner at a local restaurant. Before we went in, we had a couple of hits off Mike's ceramic cigarette. Since there was a wait for the table, we secured a position at the bar. We just received our first round of drinks when Sam started acting a little strange. He appeared to be rattling the folding chair behind where he was standing. Like he was trying to get it to fit evenly under the table. Just as Mike, Angelica and I began to laugh and ask if he was ok, his eyes rolled back in his head and he dropped to the floor! I seriously didn't know what was happening, it looked like he was having a seizure, but he wasn't shaking or anything. He just fainted. Luckily, there was an EMT at the bar who was immediately by his side. Sam came to within a minute, but it was, by far, the scariest moment of my life. What the hell??? The moments afterward became a little comical because everyone and his mother showed up to respond to the call of someone passing out at the Whaley's restaurant. We were joking that the mayor would be next followed by the town's little league baseball team carrying a banner.
After the paramedics determined he was ok and could sit up, we decided to stay for dinner. After all, we still hadn't had anything to eat yet and I'm pretty sure he passed out due to all booze and no eating all day. He was on that fishing trip earlier, so I couldn't tell you if he had anything to eat that day or not. Luckily our table was ready by then. LOL
Since we were on vacation that week, we had promised ourselves we would celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary when we got back home. It took almost 2 weeks, but we manage to finally get out Saturday, August 13th to celebrate. Nothing big, just hors d'oeuvres at a local place, Arkos, here in Lexington. Then a few more at the Crescent Moon, ending up at Hemingway's for a band and a few more drinks. It was a nice night out and nobody passed out on the floor.
I didn't want to do shots or try to push for a really late evening because Sam had to get up early and pack for his business trip. He had to be at the airport by 11am. He looked a little hung over and tired when I dropped him off.
The next day was the first day of school for Sammy. I got him up at 5:30 a.m. and on the bus by 6:30 with minor struggling. He's not one for getting himself dressed and/or eating breakfast. I got in both. It was weird for me that day trying to get used to the fact he wasn't at home. Even when I ran my errands I kept thinking, I need to check-in with Sammy to see if he's good (something I did when I left him alone for a few minutes during summer). It wasn't til Wednesday that I finally began to relax a bit and realize he's at school and I have the WHOLE day to myself.
But then I got a call from school.
Sammy was feeling pretty run-down and sniffly and resting in the nurse's office. So he was home since noon yesterday. The problem, I believe, was that he's been staying awake til 1-2am this past week (like Summer) and I'm still waking his little butt up at 5:30 a.m. Lack of sleep, no body defense, he got a pretty bad head cold. If I'm not mistaking, I believe he did this exact same thing last year. You'd think I'd learn. Heck, I've been getting him up earlier and earlier for the past 2 weeks. I thought we had this beat!
In any event, he got caught up on sleep yesterday thanks to Mr. Benedryl and I sent him back off to school this morning. We'll see if I get a call.
So the other weird part of the past two weeks was my weekly appointment with my massage therapist. Masseuse? Whatever he is. His name is Paul. I enjoy light conversation with him during my sessions as I find it relaxing. I think he has figured out I'm open minded and laid back because he hasn't hesitated saying things I wouldn't hear from just anyone. Nothing bad, just not guarded conversation. Along that line of thinking, we began talking about tanning nude. Not long after that he admitted he and his wife are nudists. They actually go to nude resorts/beaches and have groups of friends they call 'fun friends'. LOL I kept thinking, should I tell him we have fun friends too? But ours are a different kind of fun friends. Ours are swinger friends. Now a part of me keeps wondering if he was using nudist friends to edge his way into revealing they are actually swingers and not nudist. Or both? Who knows. All I do know, is that session was supposed to be 45 minutes and it was more like an hour and half. LOL I just remember how I left last week thinking - wow... who'd thunkit. But it was a fun conversation and it left me feeling light-hearted and giddy.
This week's session was really low-key. We did our usual exchange of how was your weekend and such. He said he was with the 'fun friends' in Gatlenberg, TN at a cabin. Talked about how he and two other couples hiked a trail and the girls took a moment for photo ops under the waterfalls. (Again...why take staged pictures if you're not putting them out there like on an SLS site?) But anyway, the massage session went fast and he had two other people waiting when we were done. Another nagging question is I wonder if he's sizing Sam and I up to see if we want to come to one of his couple parties at his house. At some point I may tell him we are lifestyle, but for now I think I'll just keep quiet. :)
And now to close. Its a full moon tonight. So far this week, besides the overall strangeness, I've seen a man riding his bicycle backwards down Route 6, South Lake Drive. And shortly thereafter I watched a woman driving a Ford Explorer from the passenger seat!! Turns out she was a mail carrier, but really? Is the gas pedal on the passenger side and steering column on the left? How can this be safe? Anyway, it blew my mind.
Full moons. I always know when they are coming.
