So this is more of a list and a little reminder of why we like to explore and try new things:
January 10th - Went hiking for the first time at Peach Tree Rock with my fried Cindy, her daugher, Dana and my furry nephew Buster. This is just a hiking trail near us, but cool that we have this so close. Beautiful trails that follow a creek with a little bit of South Carolina history.
January 12th - Hannah (Rental Kid #1) moved in with us.
January 14th - Went to Charleston with the family and the Moore's - did a quick visit to the infamous Angel Oak Tree (Alway beautiful to see) then off to see the South Carolina Stingwrays. They are no Hershey Bears, but it was fun all the same. Super love ice hockey!!!
January 21st - Atlanta, Georgia. Took Sammy and Hannah with Sam and I to visit the Atlanta Aquarium.
February 11th - Took Hannah and Sammy to Greenville. Sam had to carry Hannah across the bridge. Found out her fear of heights was real.
February 17th - Folly Gras in Folly Beach with the Moore's, Sam's co-worker Jerry and wife, Laura. Nice weather for February.
February 24th - Sumter, SC - Cypress Trail at Dillon Park and Swan Lake Iris Gardens. Cypress Trail was so fascinating. Black waters with tons of Cypress Trees growning out of them. Desolate and serene, it was worth the hike! Then the cherry on top was visiting on a whim, the Swan Lake Iris Gardens. Never saw so many different kinds of swans in my life. The beauty of this place at the end of February was mind-blowing. Couldn't imagine what it looks like full Spring when every bush, tree and iris is in full bloom. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves all things of beauty!
March 3rd - Car show locally with Me, Sam, Hannah, Sammy and Chase. Sammy, Chase and Hannah picked out their dream cars.
March 4th - Senior photos for Hannah at USC Campus
March 5th - Taste of Beaufort. Went with the Moore's, but Hannah was visitig her Aunt in Charleston.
It was a really cool festival with a ton of yummy food, beer and really cool art. Bought my first South Carolina print. Black & White photo by Drone photographer, Robert Gecy. I believe its after Hurricane Matthew hit Hunting Island. The piece is called The Last Cabin. Cindy and Bob bought a cool pelican statue for their pool deck made from recycled tires.
March 10th - Visit to Bluffton, did tour of city on a golf cart that took Charlize Theron around the year before (this was the driver's moment of glory) - We learned a lot about the town and one of its crazy beautiful churches. We also took lots of really cool pictures. On the way out of town we stopped at Sheldon Church - Yes, for a NON-going church person like me, we seem to find ourselves visiting a lot of churches. But once again .....ancient old church remains surrounded by Southern Oaks draped in Spanish Moss -what's not to love?
March 24th - 4th Annual Cream-of-the-Crop Beer Festival - This was just me and Sam, but a good time as usual. Scaled down caparitvely from previous years, but still worth going. Good food, good beer and old timey bands playing on the front porch of a wooden cabin. It was also a chilly 45 degrees that day.
March 31st - Ashville, North Carolina, Me, Sam, Sammy and Hannah hiked 3 Trails with water falls at Moores Cove, Looking Glass Trails and Pleasant Ridge. I think I clocked over 25,000 steps on my FitBit that day! And - Hannah kept up with us. Slowly, but she did it. She was also starting to overcome her fear of heights.
Sunday April 1st - Easter spent at Cindy's. Only listing this because a friend gave me an edible to try and for some reason Sam and I thought it would be great to try it before heading to Cindy's for Easter Day dinner. Ummmmm - OMG! We were so stoned. I've never been stoned before. Marijuana has absolutely no effect on me when I smoke it. I felt like I was melting into their lawn chair. Luckily we were only .25 miles away from home and able to blame our overall lazy form on the 3 hiking trails we covered the day before. *whew*
April 20th - Sandy Run, SC Sammy and I went on school field trip to Sandy Run to learn about the battles in the South.
April 21st - Charleston - Shem's Creek. We (Our fam and Moore's) finally visited Shem's Creek and did our first escape room at BreakOut as part of Dana's birthday present. We escaped with 3 minutes to spare. LOL We certainly learned a lesson or two about communication.
April 28th - Prom (Glad that's over with)
May 19th Townsed, Georgia - this wouldn't have any relevance other than we saw a sign that siad SMALLEST CHURCH IN AMERICA and I said Let's Go!!! We were on our way to Orlando for our family trip to Disney. It was actually pretty cool to see this miniature church. Like I think you could fit all of 8 people and some kind of preacher man in there. We took a bunch of pictures and dropped money in their donation box nailed to the front.
May 19th Continued - St. Simon's Island. Climbed up the St. Simon's Lighthouse. Still working on helping Hannah with that heights thing. 129 Steps, but she did it. She's always willing, but man does she shake. We also took the Ferry over St. John's River.
May 20th - St. Augustine, Florida. Visited the Costillo De San Marcos Monument and Fort. It is the oldest and largest masonry fort in the US. Located on the Matanas Bay of St. Augustine. And the whole city there with all its cool shops and pubs were equally as amazing. Would really like to spend a few more days there some time. Reminded me of New Orleans - not that I have ever been there. Yet.
May 21st- 26th Orlando, Florida. Since it was Hannah's first year there we visited 3 parks. I've said this before, 3 parks is almost too many when you have more than 2 people! But we did it. We did Animal Kindom - finally got to try the Avatar Flight of Passage ride. Wow - that was amazing. Did a couple of others, but Sam and I took turns taking Hannah on because Sammy still isn't thrilled about coasters. We also did Magic Kindom and Blizzard Beach. Sammy tried a coaster at Magic Kingdom - I was actually proud that he did it. It was a rickety wooden thing but, hey...baby steps right?
June 1st - High School Graduation for Hannah and Cindy's daughter, Dana.
June 1st - Sam bought a new truck - 2018 Toyota Tacoma - Blue
June 9th - Baseball game, Columbia Fireflies with the Moore's
June 16th - Neighbor and Friend, John passed away. He went in for a new heart and never made it out. RIP John.
June 22-24 - Visit to Sarah and Danny's place in NJ. Drove back through Washington DC. Saw the monument and got out. Finding parking was impossible!
June 30th-July 4th Visit from Chrissy and Kandie Glen. We manage lots of pool time with a few trips to Folly Beach, Tubing on the River and Swimming Days at Lake Murray.
July 8-9th - Baby Shower in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Stayed at AirBNB place. Me, Sam, Sammy, Hannah, Dana, Cindy & Brianna. Experienced the most epic ghost prank of my life. Thanks Brianna!
July13th-16th Finkboner Visit. Daufaskie Island, Folly Beach and drank all the beers.
July 28th - Jim moved out of Crazytown and stayed at our place for 4 weeks.
July 29th - Ashville, North Carolina - Biltmore Estates and Town of Ashville. This was our 12th wedding anniversary weekend. We ended up having dinner at the Wicked Weed Brewing Company which was pretty good, but lesson learned to always make reservations if you're planning on staying in Ashville for dinner. EVERYTHING gets booked with no waiting allowed. Wowzer!!
August 3rd - Brew at the Zoo - Sam, Jim and Me. Will definitely go again next year.
August 15th - Dana moved into Landers University. We all cried.
August 19th - Jim moved into his new bachelor pad.
August 21st - First Day of School Sammy
August 28th - First Day of College for Hannah
September 7th-8th - The Big Grab. 50 miles of Yard Sales. Winnsboro, Ridgeway to Blythewood South Carolina. Went Day 1 with Cindy. Went Day 2 with MJ. Clocked over 40K steps between both days. Worth it!
October - I was in New Jersey with Sarah and Danny for baby being born. Sam and Hannah came later.
October 3rd-6th Still in New Jersey. Sam, Sammy and Hannah came up to visit the new baby. Went to Iron Hill Brewery and Chickie and Pete's for the first time.
October 20-21- Gaitlinburg Tennessee- Dollywood with Sam Jerry Jim and I . On the 21st we stopped at goats on the roof and rode the Alpine Coaster down the side of the mountain.
October 27-28th - Charleston. Hannah and I for girls trip to visit Haunted Prison. Some really cool Carolina history there. And creepy stuff. Although I still think Hannah loves to fake hauntings and attacks. She said he felt something clawing her leg. Ok Hannaha. Ok.
November 3rd - Hutersville, NC. Carolina Renaissance Festival. Went on whim and it turned out to be one of our favorite trips. We were eating faire food, sporting flower wreaths and speaking old english before we left. Definitely want to go again!!
November 6th - Hip surgery.
December - All the kids came home for a few weeks. It was a house full. Rachel and Caleb (doggy Layla), Sarah, Danny and Savannah (doggy Frankie) then Destine (Sarah's friend from High School), Hannah, Sammy, Sam and me. Yup full house, but I was in my glory. And couldn't think of a better way to end the year!
