It's been a crazy week. First off, my lovely 3-day work week has been thrown out the door. I now work any time I can fit it in. So much for being retired. LOL
With all my unexpected illnesses and surgeries, I've been off more than I originally anticipated. Sooooo.... I no longer have to worry about potentially exceeding my 95 day restriction as an annuitant. I had like 40 left at the beginning of October which meant 3 days each week. Now I've already figured it out I can work every day my son's school is open from now til Christmas and still not hit those 40 days.
Honestly though, the timing was perfect. I'd rather have the extra cash available now so we can sit back and enjoy Christmas without taking a blow to our savings account. *happy dance* Besides, Sam just told me this morning he's not even sure the company he works for will be able to make payroll in the next couple of months. Uhhhhh - ok. Good thing we have savings and my little side job here. :) Its also a nice reminder that each pay is a blessing.
As for the company, I'm really not the slightest bit surprised about this information. This company, owned by a neighbor has ran into financial troubles countless times over the past several years. It really hasn't been managed very well at all. It was something my hubby knew going into the position. Sam works his ass off for this company too, so if he's let go, he may actually get some rest over the winter. LOL
Other than that, I'm super ready for the holidays. I've already done a ton of shopping on-line. Today Rachel asked me to order her a VIP Meet and Greet ticket to see Jhene Aiko in Philly as an early Christmas present, so just a few more things and we are good to go!
Work has been extremely busy and at this point I'm 99% sure they are extending me into 2015. Today I was quickly reminded how much my knowledge of grants is helping them. I was in a 2 hour meeting with our Dept. of Defense group and was able to lay out all their requirements and options to use the last bit of their 2012 grant. I'm still working on moving some eligible expenses, but at least we'll make the December 31st deadline almost a month ahead of time. LOL! The director of their financial division said they've NEVER met a deadline in the past 15 years. Yay me!
By the way, Sammy has been doing super duper in 1st grade this year. I seriously can NOT believe what a difference holding him back made. He's been right on doing his homework and advancing at warp speed in math. C-R-A-Z-Y!! But, I for one, am so happy for him. It was so difficult seeing him struggle last year and how quickly we both would get frustrated just trying to do homework. It would take us 4-5 hours to do a 30 minute assignment! This year...he comes home, does ALL his homework within 15-20 minutes. Amazing!
Ok - that's about it for now.
